Date: 1/2/2009
Admiral Sushil Kumar, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, NM, Former Chief of Naval Staff delivered lecture on the topic “Terrorism in the Context of Maritime Security” at Amity University Campus Sector-125 Noida. This was the 108th lecture under the Amity International Centre (AIC) Lecture Series.

In his lecture Admiral Sushil Kumar touched upon the importance of Maritime Security after the menace of 26/11 i.e Mumbai terrorist attack on NOvember 26, 2008. Admiral Kumar said there is difference in land and air in comparison to sea. In land and air, everything is pre determines, set border, LOC, air space, air corridors. Oceans are huge highways, nobody owns water. There is right to innocent passage i.e. any trailor, ship, boat can travel any sea/ocean on the plea of innocent travel. In India at any given time, there are more than 50,000 trailors, sailing in our waters. It is not possible for navy or coast guards to stop and check 50,000 moving ships.

Mr. Aseem Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University Rajasthan said that he is greatful to Admiral Sushil Kumar for presenting lecture on such an important topic. Terrorism has indeed affected the image of our peaceful country. It is hightime that after Mumbai Terrorist attack, common man should be also be on high vigil like our all security forces including Armed Forces, Coast Guear, Police etc. We should be the ear and eyes for the forces.

Faculty, Senior officials of Amity University and Ritnand Balved Education Foundaton were present during the lecture session.
