Amity University Madhya Pradesh Organizes Five Days Faculty Development Programme

FDP REPORT

A five day Faculty Development Programme was conducted at Amity University MP Gwalior from 16 June to 20 June 2014 with the objective of upgrading the teaching, training, content development & research skills of the in house faculty of AUMP.

In the 3 hours session conducted everyday , about 50 faculty, including the HOIs, actively participated in the academic activities and hands on sessions.

The Faculty Development Programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp and Saraswati Vandana. This was followed by the Inaugural Address of the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor AUMP wherein he stressed upon the need for teachers to keep themselves updated with advances in technology and new perspectives in pedagogy.

The topic of the first day of FDP was Developing Social Conscience in Students through Projects and Assignments and the Resource Person was Ms Sudha C Sharma. She sensitized the faculty to the need for assignments and projects that were( i). based on application of learning (ii). Socially relevant. In the group activity, each department brainstormed and came up with proposals of projects and assignments that could be given to students with the above end in view. On the second day , the topic of the session was Goal Setting and Motivation and was conducted by Mr Sudhir Kekre- corporate trainer and writer . He talked to the faculty on how to motivate self and also how to motivate the students .The follow up activities induced the participants to learn how to prioritize and develop lateral thinking.

The third day of the FDP was devoted to Developing Fresh Perspectives in Pedagogy by Ms Ritu Dangwal, Project Coordinator TED . She spoke of some fresh perspectives in pedagogy through innovative practices such as ‘hole in the wall’ and ‘school in the cloud’. Dr Manoj Patwardhan, Associate Professor, ABV IIITM , spoke on the Current Pedagogical Practices on the fourth day of the FDP. In this session each participant also completed the PoLT (Principle of Learning and Teaching) Component Mapping for career development and self growth.

The FDP concluded with a session on Psychology of Mentoring by Dr Geeta Narhari, eminent psychologist and counsellor. The participants ,who are all required to mentor the students, learnt the ethics of mentoring. The Resource person also talked of the history and significance of mentoring The successive case study gave a hands on training in mentoring to the participants.

Valedictory:The FDP concluded with the concluding remarks of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor AUMP Lt Gen VK Sharma AVSM Retd. He congratulated the participants on successfully completing the FDP and emphasized the need for faculty to remain open to learning.He concluded that faculty members should let knowledge come to them from all sources. The programme ended with the distribution of certificates and a vote of thanks.
