Seminar on Reviewing 70 years of India-Russia Diplomatic Relations & Future prospects

Amity School of Languages & Centre for BRICS studies of Amity University, Gurgaon organised a seminar on 25th April,17 on "Reviewing 70 Years of India-Russia Diplomatic Relations and Future Prospects". The event was jointly organised with RSUH(Moscow), RCSC (New Delhi) & Embassy of Russian Federation (India) and University of Delhi to celebrate the 70th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The chief Guest of the event was Prof. Alexander Stolyarov (Director), International Centre of South Asian Studies, RSUH, (Moscow) and many other eminent dignitaries like Mr. Alexander Schegolev, Deputy Trade Commissioner of Russia in India, Dr. Neelakshi Suryanarayan, HOD of department of Slavonic Finno-Ugrian Studies, Dr. Shiv Shakti Bakhshi, Executive Editor, Kamal Sandesh, Dr. Indira Gazieva, Professor of hindi, In chair of Oriental Studies, Institute of Linguistics, RSUH, Moscow also graced the ocassion. Both the universities signed MOU of coopoeration to develop in the field of :

· Academic mobility (of faculty members and students)

· Joint research activities

· Joint oraganisation and participation in seminars, courses, workshops and other academic activities on matters of mutual benefits.

· Oraganisation of summer and winter schools programme

· Exchange of publications and other teaching materials

Prof Dr P B Sharma,VC, AUH, highlighted India’s role in globalisation and emphasised the importance of time tested India’s strong relationship with Russia since both the countries share common legacy in cultural, philosophical and social front.

Dr. Padmakali Banerjee, PVC, AUH who is also the chairperson of the centre for BRICS studies while expressing her happiness about the MoU also reiterated that building relations between the two universities is also a great step in our diplomatic relations and would create a happier world around us.

Prof. Ashok Tiku,HOD , Amity School of languages (ASL) in his welcome address emphasised on the warmth that the two countries share and the coordial realtionship that has historically paved way for creating an ideal environment for Political ,Economic, S&T, Cultural and Academic partnership. He described the signing of MOU with one of the oldest and prestigious universities in Moscow, Russia as a proud moment for Amity University that will build linkages between the academicians and students and further promote and cement the time tested relations between the two countries.

The chief guest Prof. Alexander Stolyarov delivered a lecture on ‘Reviewing 70 years of India Russia diplomatic relations. He drew attention to how historically this current friendly relationship was built with the erstwhile USSR even when India had not attained freedom. In a very extensive presentation where he highlighted the role that various ambassadors of both the countries had played in building and strenghtening the diplomatic ties.

Mr. Alexander Schegolev, Deputy Trade Commissioner of Russia in India gave a presentation on ‘New Era of cooperation between Russia and India.’ He drew attention to the fact that despite good diplomatic ties the two countries have started having economic and trade relation very recently.

Prof. Neelakshi Suryanarayan in her lecture ‘Future prospects of India-Russia diplomatic relations’ underlined the role of foreign language in building ties between two nations. She highlighted the significance of having collaborations in all these fields and how eminent personalities from these fields have played a role in cementing the relationship between the two countries.

Dr. Shiv Shakti Bakhshi, Excutive Editor Kamal Sandesh emphasised on the importance to form a global community that understands each other. He talked extensively on the Make in India initiative of the government of India. He said how significant it is that countries like Russia invest in India and help India to generate more employment and produce goods of international standard.

It is a matter of pride for Amity University Gurgaon that its 12 students who are studying Russian language at Amity School of Languages have been selected to participate in World Festival of Youth and Students to be held in October 2017 in Moscow and Sochi, Russia . All the expenses excluding the Airfare will be borne by the Russian Govt.
