On December 6, 2022, Citizen Hospital in Gurugram hosted a Society Outreach Program on World Cancer Day in conjunction with Amity Institute of Clinical Psychology (AICP), Amity University Haryana, Gurugram. The program's main theme was sensitization and awareness of the cancer condition. Dr. Mustafa Nadeem Kirmani(Associate Professor), Dr. Mehfooz Ahmed(Assistant Professor-II), Ms Nidhi Mehta, Ms Meenakshi, Ms Shirley Raj, Dr Swati Sindhu, Dr Deepika Dhingra, Dr Amit Sharma, Dr. Amita Puri, Director Optimus Centre, Citizen Hospital Gurugram, M.Phil Clinical Psychology Part-1 & Part-2 participated and significantly contributed in the programme.
The following issues were discussed by M. Phil candidates: Participants were made more aware of psycho-oncology through the programme, which included topics such symptoms, causes, prevalence, drug misuse, media, mental comorbidity, family therapy, couple therapy, bereavement counselling, and pain management. Moreover, the importance of aurveda and other natural treatments was emphasised. The programme also highlighted community-wide methods for early sickness detection and prevention. The chaos caused by the cancer epidemic in society must be reduced. Recovery from the sickness is not impossible if the patient has sufficient social support, financial assistance, a good mindset, and the right care. We spoke about the coping strategies used by the cancer survivors who were adopted. The curriculum placed a strong emphasis on the community's need for practical and service-oriented elements.
The session's major goal was to concentrate on and draw attention to the various problems facing the cancer-affected people. Participants have gained knowledge of the value of early intervention and stigma reduction for cancer patients.
