Workshop on The Biotechnology Popularization and Skill Development Program

The event was started with the registration process at 09:15 am. Total 31 students were registered on Ist day of the event. The students were accompanied by their teachers. Hon’able Vice Chancellor along with other dignitaries set to the inaugural session by lighting the lamp with chanting of Saraswati Vandana at 09:50 am.

The welcome address was delivered by Prof Vinay Sharma, Director-AIB & Dean Research, AUR. Prof Sharma also addressed the gathering by expressing the sublime  objective  of the event  which was  to encourage the students to explore and learn technological development in biology.

Inaugural address was given by Hon’ble VC Prof Arun Patil. He spoke about the importance of biotechnology in various fields. Prof Patil gave new dimension to biotechnology by relating its value to be of utmost importance in every discipline of various subjects. He also emphasized on the learned faculty and research facilities available in AUR.

Brief statements about the event’s aim and objectives were given by Dr Vinod Singh Gour, Coordinator of the event.  He also briefed on 2-day schedule of the event and assured the students that they would enjoy and learn lectures/ hands-on training given by eminent faculty from various institutions and AUR. Dr Gour concluded with delivering the vote of thanks.

The inaugural session was ended up at 11:00 am with National Anthem and gathering proceeded for high tea followed by technical sessions.

First lecture of the technical session was conducted by Prof Vinay Sharma, Director-AIB on ‘Biotechnology: current scenario & future prospects’ asserting that biotechnology is the trait of technological development and successful career. Next lecture was delivered by Dr Laxmi Parwani, Assistant Professor Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology Bansthali Vidhyapith Rajasthan. Dr Parwani focused on ‘Innovation in biotechnology  and changes in the society’ followed by lunch break at 12:30 pm.

After lunch break, lab sessions were conducted by faculty of AIB, AUR namely Dr Kumar Shambhav Verma (Assistant Professor) and Dr Sanket Kaushik (Assistant Professor). Dr Kumar gave hands-on experience on ‘Synthesis of nanoparticales and scattering properties of NPs’ to the students. Dr Kaushik trained the students with the technologies related to Molecular Biology (e.g. DNA isolation and PCR).

The sessions of first day were ended up at 04:45 pm.

 

IInd day of workshop was started with the lecture of Dr Desh Deepak Singh (Associate professor, AIB) on ‘Emerging area and scope in medical biotechnology’ at 9:30 am followed by the lecture of Dr Rupesh Mishra, Associate Professor-AIB. He spoke on Various Career prospects in biotechnology. After tea break, Prof S. L. Kothari Vice President ASTIF, AUR interacted with the students and enlighten them with ‘Evaluation of life’ and his experience.  This interactive session was continued with the deliberation of Prof Smita, Head of Botany Dept. IISU, Jaipur on ‘Biotechnological developments and applications’.

Lab sessions were conducted after the lunch break by Dr. Anupam Jyoti (Assistant Professor, AIB) and Dr Era Upadhyay (Associate Professor) on ‘Animal Biotechnology’ and ‘Environmental Biotechnology’ respectively. Last lecture of the event was delivered by Prof. Nilima Kumari, Professor,  Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Bansthali Vidhyapith, Rajasthan till 4:15 pm.

All the delegates for valedictory session were welcomed by Dr Vinod Singh Gour at 04:25 pm. Dr Gour reported the overall activities of the event. Total 50 participants attended 07 lectures and 04 laboratory sessions during 2-day event.

Based on the feedback form and verbal communication with the students, it is concluded that the students enjoyed the sessions and had good exposure. Students and teachers had shared their experiences on the podium. Prof Vinay Sharma felicitated distinguished teachers followed by distribution of certificates. The event was successfully ended up with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr Vinod Sigh Gour at 05:00 pm.
