Amity University Jharkhand Organized an Awareness Program on Water Conservation Technique.

Amity University Jharkhand as a part of Swachhta Pakhwada 2019 took an initiative to promote Jal Shakti Abhiyan in rural areas of Jharkhand. 11 students and 2 faculty members from the Department of Economics, Amity University Jharkhand went to the Arenda and Birju village in Khunti district to spread awareness on water conservation and minimizing the use of plastic.

Jal Shakti Abhiyan was launched by Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for water conservation and also to make India free from plastic. The focus of this campaign is water-stressed districts and blocks.

The students participated in the campaign and found that Khunti, being a water-deficient majorly mono cropped area, conservation of water is an inevitable need in this region. They also observed some of the recently established water conservation structures in the village. Amitians addressed the villagers and explained to them how to keep water resources clean. They also made the villagers aware of the technique of rainwater harvesting, bore well recharge, watershed development, rejuvenation and maintenance of water bodies and tanks. They also emphasized on the importance of intensive afforestation and reuse of water for various secondary uses. In the discussion, protection of the environment, harmful effects of plastic and to minimize it were also emphasized upon. The villagers acknowledged it and pledged that they will use plates and cups made up of leaves instead of plastic.

The students considered it fortunate to be a part of this noble cause and promised to propagate these vital environmental issues in their localities.
