Lecture on Right to Information Act under the aegis of Amity International Centre

The 67th Lecture under the aegis of Amity International Centre was held on 5th January 2007. Shri Wajahat Habibullah, I.A.S, Chief Information Commissioner, Central Information Commission, delivered the lecture. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, the Founder President of Amity Institutions and Chairman of AKC Group of Companies.

Shri Wajahat Habibullah, I.A.S, Chief Information Commissioner, Central Information Commission said that "Democracy requires an informed citizenry and transparency of information which are vital to its functioning and also to contain corruption and to hold Government and their instrumentalities accountable to the governed".

"Information means any material in any form in records, documents, memos, e-mails, opinion, advices, press releases, circulars, orders, log, contracts, reports, papers, samples, models, or material held in any electronic form and information relating to any private body which can be accessed by a public authority under any other law for the time being in force"

The speaker explained the obligations of the Public authority under the RTI Act, What is not open to disclosure, what one can complain about, the details to be sent to the Chief Information Commissioner to deal with complaints promptly, the penalties, the responsibilities of Public Authorities under the RTI Act and the Public Awareness and Educational Programme.

The Speaker explained the case to case status of the complaints received and the actions taken by the Commission from time to time.

The lecture was highly informative and was well received by the participants consisting of Bureaucrats, Technocrats, Amity Institutional Heads, faculty and other members of the Amity Universe.
