Amity organized valedictory function for Defence Officers on completion of certificate course in Disaster Management

Amity Institute of Disaster Management organized 24-weeks duration Certificate Course in “Disaster Management” which was sponsored by Director General Resettlement; Ministry of Defence and was tailored for officers of the Army, Navy and Air Force. The participants were provided with adequate knowledge about Disaster Management with focus from traditional response based management to structured skill based management and understanding the whole cycle of Disaster Management i.e. Prevention, Preparedness, Mitigation, Response, Relief and Rehabilitation. On this occasion a valedictory function was organized at which certificates were presented to the officers on successful completion of their course at Amity Campus, Noida.

With rapid industrialization and commercialization, India became vulnerable to natural and man made disasters. The need for a comprehensive approach to mitigation and prevention for natural and man-made disasters became the need of the hour. The aim of conducting this course was to build a pool of trained and dedicated professionals who can contribute to the development of policies, measures and programmes for Disaster Management at various levels.

Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation speaking on the occasion remarked, “The objective of conducting this course was to provide adequate opportunity to the officers in appropriate fields to enhance their career opportunities through a phase of academic study, prepare the officers to work as a resource institution at the state and national levels for capacity building in disaster management, taking up research and project work in emerging areas of disaster management, developing liaison with the concerned organs of the Government, NGOs, Corporate Sector and International agencies, to synergize disaster mitigation efforts and filing knowledge gaps by providing a common platform for sharing of information and experience with professionals working in disaster management”.

Defence Officers receiving certificates included Cdr. Venkat Chellapathy, Lt. Col. Sanjay Mathur, Major Kripal Singh, Captain Vivek.

Lt. General BK Bopanna, Director General, Amity Institute of Disaster Management gave brief layout about the course. He stated “The course comprised of three modules covering different aspects of Disaster Management like principles/ components of Disaster Management, Disaster Management Schemes, Natural Disaster and Mitigation Efforts, Flood control, Drought Management, NGO Management, SWOT Analysis, Insurance & Risk Management etc. The participants were also asked to make projects on Disaster Scenarios”.

The occasion was graced by the officials of Army, Navy, Air Force and senior officials of Amity group.
