Webinar on “Energy Conservation with special reference to Solar Energy” Organized to commemorate National Energy Conservation Day (India). (under the mandate of the Institute Innovation Council an initiative of MOE)

 Department of Environmental Science, Amity School of Life Sciences, Amity University Madhya Pradesh (AUMP), Gwalior (MP) organized a Webinar on “Energy Conservation with special reference to Solar Energy”, under the mandate of the Institute Innovation Council (IIC), an initiative of MOE on the occasion National Energy Conservation Day (India) on December 14, 2022, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM on Zoom Platform.

 
The Inaugural Ceremony started by taking the blessings of Maa Saraswati with the Lighting of the Lamp and Saraswati Vandana and the introduction of the guests.
 
Opening Remarks by Lt. Gen. V. K. Sharma, AVSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Amity University Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior, emphasized the importance.  conservation of energy from all sources and exploring new sources of renewable energy for sustainable growth and its related benefits.
 
The keynote address was delivered by the chief guest Prof Dr. S. P. Gon ChaudhuriVisiting Professor, IIEST, Shibpur,Chairman, Energy Expert Committee, Govt. of India. Prof Chaudhuri is a renowned international expert in the field of renewable energy.  He emphasized new areas of innovation, which are related to the international solar grid, solar tiles for buildings, the solar power plant on highways for electric vehicle charging and the artificial moon. Prof. Chaudhuri discussed at length about National Solar Mission that India initiated. National Solar Mission has a target of  20000 MW of solar power installation by 2022. The target was enhanced to 100,000 MW by the year 2022. He enlightened us that the country's first MW-scale Solar power plant was installed at Asansol, West Bengal in 2009. India has also started the installation of a floating solar power plant. The largest floating solar plant was commissioned in Andhra Pradesh and the capacity of the plant is 25 Mega Watt which was installed by Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. 
The queries from the participants were answered by the Keynote speaker.
 
Concluding remarks given by Dean Academics and Director AIB, AUMP Prof (Dr.) R. S. Tomar mentioned the importance of harnessing renewable sources of energy and stressed the need to save energy and the importance of R&D to explore new avenues of energy generation.

More than 150 participants from different parts of India participated.
