Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Former Director, IIT Delhi, visits Amity University

 

Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Former Director, IIT Delhi (2016-2021) & JC Bose National Fellow, Pillay Chair Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, visited Amity University to deliver a Lecture on “Connecting Academic R&D with Product Innovation: A few case studies and a way forward”.

 

Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao is currently the Pillay Chair Professor in Electrical Engineering and the immediate Past Director of IIT Delhi. Before joining IIT Delhi as the Director, Dr. Rao served as P. K. Kelkar Chair Professor for Nanotechnology in the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Bombay. Prof. Rao's Research contributions are mainly in the areas of Nanoelectronics & Sensors where he has published over 

480 Research Papers and holds over 50 Patents, which include 20 issued US patents. 15 of his patents have been licensed to industries for commercialization. Prof. Rao is Co-Founder of two deep technology startups, Nanosniff & Soilsens, at IIT Bombay which have successful commercial products in the market. Besides his education and research activities, Prof. Rao is also well known for establishing major Nanoelectronics Programmes in the country.  

 

Addressing the gathering, Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Former Director, IIT Delhi & JC Bose National Fellow, averred, “Multi-disciplinary research is the need of the hour as it provides holistic and all-inclusive learning. In addition, it is essential to strengthen the industry-academia collaboration and the knowledge attained must be applied practically, by the researchers through product innovation.” Speaking about the significance of promoting the Start-up Eco System, he emphasized upon the cross-cultural exchange of ideas and concepts and said that innovation leads to the development of new businesses and expansion of the start-up ecosystem. “The faculty of an institution holds extreme significance; therefore, they must always support and encourage the researchers to do their best and carry out their research work smoothly. There is no difference between private and government institutions, as both are equally competent in nurturing future leaders of the country, provided the institution maintains a high-level of excellence when it comes to the faculty”, added Prof. Rao.

 

During his visit, Prof. Rao interacted with the Ramalinga and Ramanuja Fellows, Ph.D Scholars, Senior Research Fellows, Junior Research Fellows, Deans, Advisors, Heads of Institutions and Heads of Department of Science, Engineering and Technology Domains and took a tour of the Amity University campus including the Amity Innovation Incubator, Central Library and state-of-the-art Research Laboratories.
