Management of tobacco addiction and menstrual psychosocial issues 2022

Amity Institute of Clinical Psychology (AICP), Amity University Haryana, Gurgaon and Citizen Hospital, Gurugram organized one day programme on No Tobacco Day and World Menstrual Hygiene Day, 31st, May, 2022. Dr. Mehfooz Ahmed (Assistant Professor the faculties of AICP, Dr. Amita Puri, Director of Optimus and M. Phil Clinical Psychology trainees and interns at citizen Hospital participated in the program. Dr. Mehfooz Ahmed was the coordinator of the program. The basic concepts related with tobacco addiction were discussed for getting more clarity about the symptoms, etiology, theories of tobacco addiction, types, treatment and relapse prevention of the disorder. Moreover, psychosocial and awareness strategies for menstrual were also discussed. Subsequently, trainees share the experience with the tobacco addict patients and the family members. The programme also highlighted the strategies for early identification and prevention of tobacco use in the community. If the patient has strong will power social support, positive attitude and the proper treatment then it is not impossible to quit tobacco consumption. The emphasis was on developing the attitude to spread awareness in the community. There is strong need to remove the stigma in the community. Moreover, If the patient has adequate social support, financial support, positive attitude and the proper treatment then the recovery from the illness is not impossible. The prevention strategies like sensitization, psychoeducation was discussed. The programme emphasized the role of practical and service-oriented aspects in community.
