“ROLE OF DIGITAL EPIDEMIOLOGY IN MANAGEMENT OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC”

National Statistics Day is celebrated on June 29 on the birth anniversary of Late Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis. Often referred to as the 'father of Indian statistics', Mahalanobis, was born on June 29, 1893, in Calcutta (now Kolkata), West Bengal. Amity School of Applied Sciences celebrated National Statistics Day and organized a webinar on Role of Digital Epidemiology in Management of Covid-19 Pandemic on MS Team online platform on dated 29th June 2021. The main objective of the program is to make our students aware of the role of Statistics in every aspect of life, besides highlighting the notable contributions of Late Prof. P.C. Mahalonobis, father of Statistics, in the field of development planning and formulation of policies.

The program started with a welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Asita Kulshreshtha (HOI), ASAS, who thanked guest speaker as well as participants for their valuable time and contribution towards making event a grand success. Our Keynote Speaker was Prof. (Dr.) C.M. Pandey, Former Professor & Head, Dept. of Biostatistics & Health Informatics, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow. He talked about the epidemiology and continued with genesis of digital epidemiology and discussed about the digital epidemiology. He emphasized about the digital technologies used in the covid-19 pandemic, challenges in growth of  digital epidemiology, privacy and dignity concerns in the process and Legal and ethical concerns. He concluded in his lecture that digital approach to epidemiology has greatly helped in managing the COVID -19 pandemic. This has given a new dimension to epidemiology.

The program ended with the result announcement of essay competition conducted prior to the event and vote of thanks proposed by program coordinator, Dr. Gunjan Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Statistics, ASAS.
