 A Virtual Guest Lecture session on “Voluntourism: A Grassroot Level Approach” was organized by Amity Institute of Travel & Tourism Kolkata on the 28th of June 2021 on MS Teams Platform.   

 

Mr. Jeevan Lal Verma, Founder & Director of Rural Organisation for Social Elevation (R.O.S.E.) R.O.S.E. is a small non-profit organization, located at Sunargaon (Kanda) in Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand, that works at the grassroots level - appealing to travellers to become active participants in getting involved in and funding projects to improve the health, education and quality of life of the rural regional poor while maintaining cultural integrity and ecological balance. This goal is actualized through a program which brings tourist participants to Kanda to live with the Verma family, experience local Kumaoni culture and assist physically or financially, in the rural development activities of R.O.S.E. Mr. Verma has created an exceptional example of responsible rural tourism that greatly benefits the community and the visitors through genuine, respectful cultural interactions. Mr. Jeevan Lal Verma has also been felicitated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India with the 1st National Gopal Ratna Award in the year 2017.
