Amity School of applied sciences organized seminar on Activity purification and characterization of pituitary hormones

Amity School of applied sciences organized seminar on Activity purification and characterization of pituitary hormones on 14th April 2021 by Dr. Manoj Panchal ,Assistant Professor, Life sciences, SEBES, CUSB.

The main objective of the guest lecture was to enhance the research perspective of PG students in the field of Hormone Biochemistry. The speaker is an expert in purification and characterization of pituitary hormones and the topic is also related to the course structure of Biochemistry PG students, so it will increase their basic knowledge and will augment the knowledge on purification techniques of the Applied Chemistry and Forensic Students of CBFS as well.

Dr. Manoj Panchal , Assistant Professor, Life sciences, SEBES, CUSB gave the information about the method of purification of pituitary hormone, Prolactin (PRL), which is a hormone responsible for inducing production and secretion of milk in mammary glands. Purification of proteins are necessary for the study of their characters. Purification depends on source, pH, temperature, type, and properties of proteins.

Students also learnt the steps involved in Prolactin purification, process of homogenization, centrifugation, SDS-PAGE Chromatography for protein fractionation. After PRL is purified, its physio-chemical, Biological and immunological characters are determined by various processes like ELISA, Western – Blotting, Mass spectroscopy etc.

The seminar was very enthusiastic, knowledgeable and helpful to students. Seminar ended with vote of thanks by Prof. Seema R. Pathak, HOD, CBFS, AUH. Total 50 students and 2 faculties participated in the seminar.
