Webinar on Role of Social Entrepreneurship in Rebuilding the Economy
The panel discussion, on a very current topic ‘why social entrepreneurship important to rebuild Indian economy’, was started with the remark of Hon’ble Pro-VC Prof. Amit Jain. He has shared the activities and work done by YSBC-AUR and highlighted how Amity University Rajasthan is working to achieve the mission of Three Zero (Zero Poverty, Zero Unemployment & Zero Net Carbon Emissions). He has also discussed the future plan of YSBC that is to promote the social enterprises and social sector start-up in rural areas with the help of Amity Innovation and Incubation.
The co-panelists were Prof. Azhar Kazmi (King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia) and Mr. Dilnawaz Khan (Founder at Codesign Labs & Power Desk Ex-CIIE.Co, Mentor - AIM). Following were a few key points that were raised by the panelists:
Prof. Kazmi
· Need to identify weaknesses that appeared due to COVID-19 and to take proper measures.
· Demonetization had also a similar kind of impact on the economy, especially micro and small businesses.
· Highlighted the importance of natural resources.
· Education is a key of economic development, the place of India in HDI is very low.
· Discussed labour and employment issues especially migrant workers and advocated for the special care of these workers as they are the backbone of industries and economy.
· Brought out some areas where social entrepreneurship can make differences. These areas are – agriculture, Agri-businesses, agricultural labourers, and informal production sector.
· Also laid stress upon scaling of micro and petty businesses.
· Corporate Social Responsibility is important to rebuild the economy.
· The younger generation is much more conscious about social responsibilities which would be the strength of the Indian economy.
Mr. Dilnawaz
· Highlighted how social enterprises support the poor and vulnerable.
· Highlighted why the social enterprise model is more sustainable compared to the NGO model to support society. He advocated that the path of social entrepreneurship makes people more capable in terms of income and employment generation.
· Based on his own experiences, laid stress upon how social norms is still a big barrier for women entrepreneurship in rural and semi-urban areas and how the use of technology can break this barrier.
· Discussed different government and other sources of funding that may help young people in the start-up of social enterprises.
Finally, Prof. Amit Jain summed up the discussion with the thanks of the panel.
