Guest Lecture on ‘Practical Sustainability: Adaption and Resilience to Weather Extremes’

A guest lecture on “Practical Sustainability: Adaption and Resilience to weather extremes.” This seminar took place on 12th July 2019 at F3 block in Amity University. The speaker for the lecture was Professor Andrews Griffiths, who is currently the Executive Dean of the University of Queensland, Faculty of Business Economics and Law. He was accompanied by Mr Janardan Kewin , who is the regional manager at the University of Queensland .The guest speakers were heartily welcomed by the students.
In the beginning, Mr. Janardan briefed the students about the University of Queensland and scholarship available to Amity University students. Later Prof. Andrews reflected his profound knowledge on the topic. He also talked about his recent works with the company, Mahindra on the project Sustainability.

The whole session triggered the young minds into thinking innovative ways to deal with the climate. An interactive concourse ignited the inquisitiveness of students. They were given a chance to ask their questions to the speaker. And Prof Andrew gave satisfactory answers to all the students. At the end, Prof Andrews motivated the students with his own Mantra “to Read, to be Aware and to look for Opportunities”. The informative guest lecture culminated with a vote of thanks proposed by the host of the event.

Asia pacific Housing Forum

Habitat for Humanity India organised 7th Asia Pacific Housing Forum (APHF). The Conference was held on 18th and 19th of July 2019 at Indian Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road. The Asia Pacific Housing Forum is a biennial conference across Asia Pacific countries. It is as a valuable platform for stakeholders working across different fields to come together and put the new global directions into action to create affordable housing and inclusive cities. On 18th of July Chief Guest and Shri. G Mathi Vathanan, Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development, Govt. Of Odisha inaugurated the conference by lighting the lamp. Around 350 delegates and 50 speakers shared the platform to build collaboration between organizations with the capacity to impact the cost-effective housing sector in India, recognize and act on the importance of shelter as a driver of inclusion, resilience and sustainability and also to promote best practices showcasing innovative and high impact housing initiatives.

Two Plenary and six Breakaway sessions were organised on the first day of the conference. In the first Plenary Ms. Anurita Bhatnagar, Professor and Lead Researcher from Amity University presented the summary findings of the Habitat for Humanity India and unveil the Publication of the Review Paper on the State of the Affordable Housing Ecosystem. Panel Discussion on ‘Affordable Housing Sustainable Sanitation and Disaster Management’ was apprehended in the second Plenary. Tea was provided to all the delegates and speakers between the two plenaries.

After the lunch break six break away sessions with themes Affordable Housing, Wash and Disaster Management was organised in three different auditoriums of the Habitat Centre.
Under the theme of ‘Powering Collaboration for Housing Ecosystem,’ each thematic track captured critical trends in the sector with key topics being covered in the plenaries and breakout sessions throughout the Forum. The conference also had special session for students on Engaging Youth for Social Change Makers’ which provided us with an opportunity to learn more leadership skills.
On the second day, one plenary was organised and the role of CSR in the Housing Eco-System Maximizing impact through Corporate Social Responsibility was discussed by Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee, Director General Indian Steel Association. Mr. Vijay Sethi, Chief Information Officer, Head CSR Hero Moto Corp Ltd., Mr. Rajendra Ghag, Sr. EVP Business Excellence, Administration, CSR & Chief Values Officer, HDFC life, Mr. Rajendra Wanchoo, Head CSR NBCC, Mr. Rajnish Nandan, General Manager Sales, Roca Bathrooms and Ms. Jyoti Chetal JSW* discussed the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility and the changes that the Corporate law of India has brought into the scenario. Post this, the delegates were served tea.
Six break away sessions were held after this, having the following themes- Affordable Housing Finance, Affordable Housing Finance, Climate Change & Resilient communities Focus on Climate Change for Indian situation and how to build resilient communities, Urban Interventions Urban Housing Schemes (DUSIB), Migration, Slum Up gradation In-Situ Initiative, Rental housing etc., Water Resource Management: Global water crisis Improving access to water Successful water interventions and Engaging Youth for Social Change Change Makers Engaging youth for sharing insights and showcase start-ups and useful models by the sung/unsung heroes which have created tremendous change in the area of Housing, Disaster Response and Sanitation.
Under the theme of Affordable Housing Finance Making inroads into low income group/ EWS housing, the importance of sustainable and affordable housing was discussed in detail along with various analysis conducted in and around Delhi regarding the housing in the state. Plenary IV took place in the end and the concluding ceremony was conducted. The winners of the forum were announced and given their cash prizes during this ceremony.

Seminar on ‘How to Crack Examinations for Economics in Indian Colleges’

The Placement Cell of Amity School of Economics conducted a seminar on the topic ‘How to crack examinations for Economics in Indian colleges’ for the academic year 2019-20 on 15th July 2019. The seminar was conducted by ASE alumni, Dhanya Singh.
The seminar began with explaining that one should not target only the renowned universities like Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi School of Economics, but also focus on universities like JNU, Jamia Milia Islamia, Madras School of Economics, etc. During the seminar various courses offered by different colleges in the field of were discussed along with the paper patterns of the respective colleges. A few tips and tricks were also shared on how to revise regularly to avoid burden in the end.

The seminar was attended by over 10 students. All the students were very interactive throughout the session. The queries of the students were answered with due diligence. The seminar had a positive response from the students. Feedback were collected at the end of the seminar.

Excel Workshop Session 1

The first of session for the ‘Excel Workshop’ for the academic year 2019-20 took place on 16th July 2019. The session was conducted by Dr. Faraz Ahmed, faculty, Amity School of Economics.
During the excel session a brief revision of the topics covered in the previous year was done. Various features of the table were discussed such as, sorting and filtering the table, removing the duplicates if any, grouping of data, inserting pivot tables as well as pivot charts. Shortcuts of selecting the data and inserting the table in one go were also discussed.

The session was attended by more than thirty students. Dr Faraz was very efficient in communicating the topics. The students were equally interactive throughout the session.

Panel Discussion on Demystifying the Workplace

The Placement Cell of Amity School of Economics organised the Panel Discussion on “Demystifying the workplace” on 20th August, 2019 in room no. 315 at 11:00 AM for MA Economics students. The discussion was organised by Triedge Solution in association with CII. It was moderated by Ms.Madhulika Makar ( Director-Triedge Solutions) with 3 panellist Ms. Pallavi Bajaj (International trade policy expert), Ms. Roshini Bahl (Director, Shradha HRD), Ms. Pooja Kothari (CEO-Star Records Management). The discussion was started with a small online quiz to make the students more energetic and interactive during the session.

The moderator Ms. Madhulika Makkar started the the discussion with a brief introduction about Triedge Solutions . She asked the students about their expectations related to their workplace. She discussed about so many terms related to a workplace like flexibility, safety , employee friendly, hirerachy , easy to work, full of growth opportunities , digital and digital training etc. The other panellist also spoke about the modern workplace and its challenges.

They also discussed about the Job opportunities available in different Industries. Later on they discussed about interview skills and techniques and Ms. Pallavi bajaj added, at the time of interview two aspects are very important i.e Skill and Attitude. At the end of the discussion they gave few tips on how to make your CV more attractive and impressive. The entire discussion was very interactive and students were highly benefitted by the session

The guest were felicitated by Prof. (DR.) Shalini Singh Sharma, Director, Amity School of Economics. Vote of thanks was given by Ms. Mona Wadhwani .


Career Counselling

Amity School of Economics organised a workshop on Career Counselling for the students of MA and BA Economics on 30th August 2019 at 11:00 AM in the L3 Auditorium . It was conducted by “Mr. Inbarajan P” – The Sr. Vice President of Shiksha.com, Infoedge Ltd .

He started the session with some brainstorming activity and asked the students about their career interest and aspirations in life. He told the students about difference between career and job. He also spoke about the current job opportunities which can be there career and also changing career trends. As Industries are growing very rapidly so they need to understand in which field or sector they can grow their career.

Mr. Inbarajan briefed about the company Info edge India ltd.; the various business houses owned by it, for example – Naukri.com, shiksha.com, 99acres.com and services these online websites provide. He also spoke about some real life experience which was enlightening for the students. The session was followed by an extensive discussion about the growing influence of digitalization on the world’s population. If any student wants to choose Digital marketing as a career then what they need to do to enhance their skills.

The session ended with few inspiring clips about never giving up on the dreams and aspirations. Responses of students were collected through feedback forms.
This was an extremely enriching experience and students wish to be a part of such workshops in the future as well. We are sure students feel they can ‘stay ahead of the curve’ with opportunities such as these to enlighten them.

Excel Workshop Session 1

The Placement Cell of Amity School of Economics conducted the Excel workshop on 19th August, 2019 in room no. 317. The workshop was conducted by Dr Faraz Ahmad, Faculty, Amity School of Economics.
During the Workshop, Logical functions was taught in more detail and emphasis was given on how to use OR-AND formula in the cell. Further it was taught on how to calculate percentage change, symbols for increase and decrease using formula, grading, count for multiple criteria, count how many empty cells are there in a range with the help of formula. At the end of the workshop functions such as SUMIFS, COUNT, COUNTA, AVERAGEIFS, COUNTIFS, COUNTBLANK was discussed with the help of an example.

The session of the workshop was attended by M.A Economics 2nd year and feedback forms were collected. The workshop enabled the students how to apply different formula in the cell to make it more presentable.

Excel Workshop Session 2

The Placement Cell of Amity School of Economics conducted the Excel workshop on 26th August, 2019 in room no. 317. The workshop was conducted by Dr Faraz Ahmad, Faculty, Amity School of Economics.
During the Workshop, Character function and the procedure to use special paste was discussed more in detail. Later on, Look-up functions such as VLookUp and HLookup which is used to performs an approximate or exact match in a one-column or one-row and returns the corresponding value from another one-column or one row range with the help of formula was taught.

The session of the workshop was attended by M.A Economics 2nd year and feedback forms were collected. The workshop enabled the students to realise how these function help to find a particular value in large data easily to save time.

The Placement Cell of Amity School of Economics conducted the Excel workshop on 9th September,2019 in room no. 317. The workshop was conducted by Dr Faraz Ahmad, Faculty, Amity School of Economics.
During the Workshop, Rating function with the help of Vlookup function using approximate match was discussed. This enabled the students to use If function so as to compare operators with dates. Later, functions such as Day, Month, Year was taught using text function and how to separate the short date using formula.

The session of the workshop was attended by M.A Economics 2nd year and feedback forms were collected. The workshop enabled the students to rate the data in Qualitative term with the help of VlookUp function in large data to make it easier to understand.

Excel Workshop Session 4

The Placement Cell of Amity School of Economics conducted the Excel workshop on 2nd September, 2019 in room no. 317. The workshop was conducted by Dr Faraz Ahmad, Faculty, Amity School of Economics.
During the Workshop, Lookup function such as VLookUp and HLookUp was discussed in detail with the help of the formula and later on, the combination of Index as well as Match function was taught in detail.

The session of the workshop was attended by M.A Economics 2nd year and feedback forms were collected. The workshop enabled the students to realise how these function help to find the exact or approximately value in a large data.
