Swami Vivekananda once said –“Come out into the universe of Light. Everything in the universe is yours, stretch out your arms and embrace it with love. If you ever felt you wanted to do that, you have felt God. “ We can bind the entire world only with the all encompassing love- love that transcends boundary- love that touches every soul – love- this magical word frees us of all the weight and pain of life.
Amitians believe that though "nobody can do everything, yet everyone can do something!" As Norman B. Rice had stated – “ Dare to reach out your hand into the darkness, to pull another hand into the light.”
Amity, Pushp Vihar under the mentorship of its visionaries, the Founder President, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan Sir and Chairperson, Dr. Mrs. Amita Chauhan Ma’am has always striven to reinforce such lofty moral ideals among thestudents through various enriching initiatives and innovative programmes.
On the 7th of July,2011, Amity, Pushp Vihar was indeed honoured and proud to welcome a personality of eminence who is creating history by showering her love to the most needy and the most deprived – Ms. Rani Hong, the co-founder of Tronie Foundation. Ms Rani is a steadfast campaigner to end human trafficking and modern day slavery.
Rani along with her husband Trong Hong started the Tronie Foundation in the United States of America to support survivors of human trafficking, motivated by their own experience of having survived and escaped human trafficking in their early childhood. For the past 10 years, Rani has been sharing her story across the globe to inspire people and collect support for her work with survivors of human trafficking. In 2002, her testimony before the Washington State legislature helped pass a law that had been stalled for four years, making it the first state in the nation to pass anti-trafficking legislation. She has been honoured with many awards, including the 2010 Jefferson Award for Washington State and the 2008 United Nations Human Rights award. Recently she was a featured speaker at the Catalyst Leadership Convention, in the USA, sharing her message in front of a community of 13,000 young adult leaders.
Her presence in the Amity campus generated such an electrifying buzz that all and sundry were infused with a new thought process by the end of the session.
The event started off with the lighting of the lamp by Ms. Rani Hong, Ms. Ameeta Mohan, principal and Ms. Divya Bhatia, vice – principal alongwith other esteemed guests, Ms. Madhyama Subramanium, UNODC, Ms. Jyoti Arora,HEAD, Amity Educational Resource Centre, Amity Group of Schools and Ms. Vira Sharma, Chief Editor, The Global Times.
This was followed by a talk on human trafficking by Ms. Hong which introduced us all to her touching and inspiring story. She talked about how the Tronie Foundation is doing its bit in eradicating human trafficking and working towards a better society, all in affiliation with United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the UN General Assembly, where Ms. Hong works as an advisor on issues related to human trafficking.
Rani Hong’s bold and charismatic personality touched every soul present in the audience. Even the Chairperson of Amity group of schools, Dr. Mrs. Amita Chauhan applauded Rani Hong’s strength of character, her steadfastness and her strong will power to rise above all adversities to face the challenges of life with courage and determination.
This interaction proved that truth is stranger than fiction and there is more to life than what meet our eyes. This session with Ms. Rani Hong would definitely prove to be a life changing experience for everyone who were part of itas such interactions not only sensitize the youth of today but also inculcate in them a belief that everything is possible if we have faith in ourselves and in the benevolence of the Almighty.
