Amity Institute of Forensic Sciences is an institute of Amity University came into existence by an act under the Amity University (Uttar Pradesh) Act, 2005 and it has also been listed under ‘Educational Institutions’ in the U.P. The journey of Directorate of Forensics Services commenced with the creation of State Forensic Science Laboratory on 13-12-1988 at Police Headquarters, Shimla. The organization primarily caters to the needs of investigation agencies viz. Police, Vigilance, CID. Also, rendering services to judiciary, universities, boards, banks, enquiry commissions and other government departments. Before it came into existence, the said departments were dependent on central government institutions: Central Forensic Science Laboratories, Government Examiner of Questioned Documents and Serologist to the Government of India, Kolkata.
Himachal Forensics scaled new heights to emerge first amongst State & Central Forensic Labs in the country after becoming member of Asian Forensic Sciences Network (AFSN). Also DFS, HP appeared on the global map when succeeded in getting ISO/IEC 17025:2005 (2018) and thereafter ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation from NABL and became fifth State FSL & first RFSL NABL accredited labs in the country. Likewise, NDPS division of State FSL got registered with the United Nations Office on Drugs & Crime (UNODC) to participate in the International Collaborative Exercise (ICE) as a measure of quality assurance programme with the United Nation Lab.
Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Government of NCT of Delhi was approved in the 8 th Five year Plan (1992-97) for state of Delhi and was inaugurated on 18.02.1995. It is accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) and is notified as Examiner of Electronic Evidence under section 79A of IT Act of 2000/ISO/IEC 17025:2017. The Laboratory coordinates, develops and disseminates new valuable information in investigations and management of crime scenes to different law enforcement agencies of state and to cases of national importance (NIA, CBI). The Laboratory has a 24x7 Crime Scene Management Division functional at various districts of NCT of Delhi that assists in the scientific investigations of crime scenes. FSL takes pride in ensuring the on-going quality of services in the field of Forensic DNA/Biology-Serological Examination, Toxicology, General Chemistry & Post Blast Residual Samples Examination, Forensic Documents Examination, Digital Evidence (Cyber Forensic Division) & Audio Video Examination, General Physical Matching & samples of Building Materials, Metals etc., Decipherment of original number from theft/stolen vehicles, Ballistics & Fire Arm Examination, Finger Print Comparison, Forensic Psychological examination, Crime Scene Examination support and Forensic Photography through use of innovative scientific techniques to resolve the conventional and new patterns of crime. Recently, Hon. Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Shri V.K Saxena inaugurated the state-of-the-art new Annexe building of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Delhi that is equipped with latest techniques of International Standards. The laboratory plays a pivotal role in providing multi - disciplinary training to professionals and has signed MOU’s with premium institutions that encourages its scientific officers/officials for research activities on latest forensic issues.
