Amity Law School organizes a Seminar on “Women in Unorganized Sector”

Amity Law School Noida organized a Seminar on “Women in the Unorganized Sector”, with an aim to create awareness about the laws for women in the unorganized sector. More than 100 women from the unorganized sector participated in the workshop.

 

Addressing the women, Dr. S. S. Senapati, Senior Research Officer, National Commission for Women (NCW), averred, “At present, more than 7 million women are working in the unorganized sector, therefore, it is necessary to work to make them aware of their rights. The National Commission for Women is working for the equality and rights of women and today there is a Women's Commission in every state of India. In addition, special campaigns are being conducted to work to overcome the challenges and obstacles faced by women in the unorganized sector. We work at the grass root level on laws, acts, and policies to ensure that women do not face injustice. Whenever there is a complaint by any women regarding any kind of injustice, we work on it and help them in every possible way. Moreover, the National Commission for Women (NCW) works for capacity building in which women are made aware of their rights. We provide them with information about the compliance of government policies and the benefits available to them so that they can avail all the benefits, under the various policies.”

 

Smt. Saumya Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Gautam Budha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, stated, “Many important initiatives have been taken by Gautam Budh Police under the leadership of Commissioner Mrs. Laxmi Singh, in the field of safety and protection of women. For safety of women at various levels, 13 pink booths have been constructed in the district where women can get their problems resolved anytime. At the second level, there is a women's desk in every police station where women can file their complaint and discuss their problems freely. At the third level, a women's wing is run in the commissioner's office, in which counsellors of Amity University guides women and resolves the issues faced by them. Under Mission Shakti, our aim is to make women aware and help them in their all-round development and as apert of this initiative, women in different areas are made aware of their rights.”

Prof. (Dr.) D. K Bandyopadhyay, Chairman, Amity Law School, said, “Women in the unorganized sector face a lot of challenges such as low-Income, limited access to education and training, poor working conditions and limited access to social security benefits including health insurance, pension, and maternity leave. The Seminar is highly relevant for the women in this sector they must have knowledge about the laws for women in the unorganized sector so that they can fight for their rights and ensure justice.”

Dr. Shefali Raizada, Director Amity Law School welcomed the guests on the occasion and various experts including Dr. Seema Singh, Professor of Law, University of Delhi, Smt. Mamta Painuly Kale, Spokesperson B.J.P. Delhi, Dr. Meera Pathak, Senior Gynecologist and Mr. Vikas Jha, Founder Bhavishya NGO, shared their views, followed by a Q&A Session.
