Jindal Global Law School wins 14th Amity International Moot Court Competition
Amity Law School, Noida organized the 14th edition of Amity International Moot Court Competition, from 17th to 19th October 2024, on the theme, “Genocide and Territorial Sovereignty”. Jindal Global Law School was declared the winner of the competition, whereas Lloyd Law School Meerut, and Babu Banarasi Das University, Lucknow were adjudged the first and second runner up, respectively.
41 teams from various Law Schools across India such as Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Shillong Law College, Symbiosis Law School Pune, Law College Dehradun, National Law Institute University Bhopal, Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Maharashtra National Law University Nagpur, Asian Law College, Jindal Global Law School, and many others, participated in the competition.
Addressing the students, Mr. A.S Chandhiok, Senior Advocate, averred “Mooting is an enriching experience that enables law students to demonstrate their subject knowledge among their peers. Through Moot Court competitions, students gain valuable insights and opportunities to hone their skills in debating, mediation, problem-solving, critical thinking, and analysis. However, a lawyer must be able to empathize with his client and think and act on a humanitarian basis.”
Motivating the students, Hon'ble Justice Girish Kathpalia, Judge, Delhi High Court, said, “Work hard and a bit more every day. Use technology but be careful and vigilant since technology is easily misused for various wrong and fraudulent activities.”
Advising the students, Hon’ble Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, Judge, Delhi High Court, opined, “There is no end to learning and one must keep learning every day. The judges present here today are a source of inspiration for all the students and they must imbibe their qualities.
Hon'ble Justice. Neena Bansal Krishna, Judge, Delhi High Court, said, “Being punctual is very important and one must value time. Be committed to your work and be a good human being. This event provides a platform for participants to showcase their talents and engage in interactive and communicative sessions, facilitating the exchange of ideas that centre around public issues.”
Highlighting the significance of Moot Court Competitions, Prof. (Dr.) D.K Bandyopadhyay, Chairman Amity Law School, said, “The Moot Court Society at Amity Law School Noida firmly advocates for the necessity of a platform where aspiring law students can showcase their talents and hone their skills in both oral and written advocacy. These skills contribute to a comprehensive understanding of legal materials and related subjects.”
Welcoming the guests, Dr. Shefali Raizada, Director, Amity Law School, stated, “This year's competition focuses on the critical themes of Armed Conflict, Self-Determination, and Genocide. The central issue revolves around the territorial dispute between the Republic of Novorossia and the Republic of Volgaslavia over the Sylvanian region.”
Also present on the occasion were Dr. Arvind P. Bhanu Additional Director Amity law School, the faculty and students in large numbers. The Best Memorial Award was won by Symbiosis Law School and the Best Researcher Award went to Akshya Pandey from Lloyd Law College. The Best Oralist Award was presented to Ms. Lavanya from Jindal Global Law School during the Valedictory Session.
