The Media and Entertainment Division of FICCI, a vital link between the media and entertainment industry, Information and broadcasting Ministry and global interests conducted the 3 day global convention, FICCI FRAMES 2017.

The event was spread across 3 days and had various sessions on key topics pertaining to the media industry. The theme for this year was “Digital- Divide or Dividend?”

The 18th edition of FICCI Frames began by lighting of the lamp with Bollywood actor Jacqueline Fernandes along with other dignitaries on dais. It was followed by the welcome address by Mr. Pankaj Patel, President, FICCI and CMD, Cadila Healthcare. Mr. Patel touched upon how the media industry grew at 9 percent last year despite demonetization. Particularly speaking about digital, Mr. Patel said that today social media is widely used- be it to for expressing opinions or for consuming content. With the entry of 4G, the penetration of internet has further boosted the digital medium and hence this space has huge potential.  Highlighting the theme of this year, Mr. Uday Shankar, Chairman, FICCI Media and Entertainment Committee and Chairman and CEO, Star India took center stage. He expressed his concern on whether the Indian creative mind is in a position to respond to the pace of technological change with an equally rapid evolution in its creativity.

Canada being the partner country for FICCI Frames 2017 had Mr. Nadir Patel, High Commissioner for Canada to India, Mr. John Tory, Mayor of Toronto, Canada, as the guests of honor. They threw light on how the recent Indo-Canadian partnership has helped the film industry grow and smoothen operations in both the countries.

Mr. Sudhanshu Pandey, Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India spoke about how the ministry is taking various initiatives to overcome some of the problems faced by the media industry.

Mr. Ajay Mittal, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting elaborated on the rapid internet growth and penetration. Mr. Mittal promised to work with the industry to create a platform so that the creative geniuses are supported. He also mentioned about giving special attention to creation of kids content.

Mr. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Chairman, FICCI Film Forum, Director and Founder, ROMP thanked everyone for their support and the initiatives the industry has taken for its growth.

Dr A Didar Singh, Secretary General, FICCI moderated the session.

The FICCI KPMG report was released by Mr. Girish Menon, Director- Media and Entertainment, KPMG India.

There were various other sessions on topics relevant to the media industry and the event witnessed a host of industry stalwarts Mrs. Madhuri Dixit (Bollywood Actor), Mr. Siddharth Roy Kapur (Leading Film Producer), Ms. Anuradha Prasad (CMD, BAG Films & Media Ltd), Mr. Raj Nayak (CEO, Colors- Viacom 18), Mr. Harit Nagpal (MD & CEO, Tata Sky), Mr. Imtiaz Ali (Film maker), Ms. Ekta Kapoor (Joint MD and Creative Director- Balaji Telefilms) and many more.

Student participation

103 students from AUM, majority from Amity School of Communication participated in the event which had 2 major components to it; Discussion on various topics pertaining to Media industry and Frame your ideas- which is a platform to connect idea, story or script owners with content producers, commissioners and studios. 50 students were a part of the team that managed the entire Frame your idea event along with the key stakeholders, 11 students formed a part of the core team which attended the sessions and interviewed the delegates, 5 students were a part of the photography team to cover the entire event, 22 students were a part of the B2B team and 15 students were at the registration desk.  

The students that were a part of the interview committee did a brilliant job by networking with the industry bigwigs, getting them to the Amity Lounge and interviewing them. They were thoroughly prepared with their questions backed by in-depth research. They asked some very intelligent industry relevant questions which impressed the interviewees and helped us in generating some good content. The students that were a part of the Frame your ideas team also did a good job and were lauded by the organizers and the core team. 

48 students from Amity Business School got an opportunity to be a part of the sessions on day 2.

The organizers were extremely happy with our students in all teams for their professional approach towards the jobs and responsibilities assigned to them.
