English Studies: Skill Development for Sustainable Growth

Amity University, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow Campus organized a two day International Conference under the expert leadership of Prof (Dr) Kum Kum Ray, Founding Director, Amity School of Languages  on English Studies: Skill Development for Sustainable Growth from 23rd  – 24th February 2017.

The Chief Guest was Mr Partha Sarthy Sen Sharma, who drew a parallel with Wordsworth’s Daffodils, and his idea of, “emotions recollected in tranquillity”, with the author’s style of recording his memories in very poetic expressions which is truly romantic in essence.

Mr. Sen Sharma also read from his recently published book, “Every Mile A Memory”, much to the delight of the audience present in the function, He read excerpts from various sections, “A Bengali in Britain “,and others.

 It was followed by a Symposium, titled, “Times, they are a changing”, on Bob Dylan,  the 2016 winner of  the  Nobel prize for literature. The students of ASL sang songs from Dylan’s collection & set the mood for the discussion The discussion was moderated by Dr. Amrita Das, Founder-Director of ICS-International and the speakers included  ,Ms. Sharmee Hoseni, Dhaka , and  Dr. Praveen Kumar Anshuman , University of Delhi. Dr Das succinctly summed up the discussion by asserting the three important thoughts that seemed to emerge from the discussion, “the power of expression”, the necessary “passion” to work , and the need to aim at “transformation”, which is what the Nobel laureate Bob Dylan explicates through his work.
