Asian Regional Conference on Goats(ACRG-2018)

Amity Institute of Microbial Technology has organized an International Conference “ARCG 2018 - Current Challenges in Goat Industry and the Strategies to Combat in Asian Region” 22 – 26 October 2018 at Amity University Rajasthan (https://youtu.be/ACKtUV6oHX8). Scientist, Scholars & Industry experts from USA, Canada, China, Ecuador, France, Hungary, Japan, Nepal, Nigeria, South Korea, Spain, Turkey, Bangladesh and 21 states of INDIA have participated. Five day conference was supported by ICAR – CIRG & CSWRI, NABARD, Ahmadnagar Goat Federation, HEIFER International, Astronic etc. Prof. Arun Patil (VC - AUR) has welcomed Chief Guest. The conference was inaugurated by Shri Gajender Singh Shekhawat (Hon’ble MOS for Agriculture & Farmers welfare - GOI), he shared with the gathering that animal husbandry especially goat rearing is the back bone of farmers economy and has helped the farmers during the extreme famine. He informed that there have been no farmer’s suicide in the state of Rajasthan and animal husbandry has played vital role in that. Dr. Aseem Chauhan (Chancellor - AUR) shared that goat and farmers have deep relationship and there is humongous demand of goat meat and related products in world. Chancellor has shown his interest to open Agri business center in the university to connect the farmers with relevant industries and to run the extension programs to for the farmers welfare. Dr. A K Tomar – Director CIRG, Dr. M S. Chauhan – Director CSWRI & Dr. Vishnu Sharma – VC – RAJUVAS have also given importance to strengthen goat – sheep industry to enhance the farmers income.  Dr. Beth Miller – President – IGA - USA has given the overview of global goat industry. Dr. K Balakrishnan (PVC - AUR) has convened the valedictory session. Dr. G K Aseri (Dy. PVC – AUR & Conference Chair) & Dr. Jagdip Sohal (Faculty – AIMT & Organizing Secretary) have presented conference report and proposed outcome, also given vote of thanks to all stakeholders.

Outcome:

1.      Signed LOI with IGA to open IGA – INDIA project led by Amity University Rajasthan. Key activities as under:

·         Establish the IGA India Goat Project Advisory Board to manage the project

·         Design and implement training programs for goat producers, beginning in Rajasthan

·         Build a bridge between academia and farmers through comprehensive extension and farmer services

·         Improve goat marketing by linking goat producer groups with industries for different goat products

·         Establish financial services including loans to help small-scale producers upgrade and expand their operations

·         Advance gender equality and women’s empowerment through integrated goat husbandry and gender-responsive programming

·         Establish a training center on sustainable goat production

·         Strengthen IGA activities in India to build membership, strengthen professional networks and advocate for a vibrant and healthy goat sector in India.

2.      Dr. Yin Zie Zhang (Dean – College of Animal Sci. & Tech. – Agriculture University of Hevei - China) has given their consent to initiate student exchange program.

3.      Dr. Davinia Sanchez Maicas (National University of Chimborazo – Ecuador) has given their consent to initiate student exchange program.

4.      Dr. R B Sharma (National Director – Mission of Higher Education in Agriculture – ICAR - GOI) has shown his interest to help AUR for Agricultural programs.
