Amity Law School, Amity University Madhya Pradesh organizes “Model United Nations (MUN-2018)” on 27th – 28th August 2018

Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an co-curricular activity in which students typically role play delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees. This activity takes place at MUN conferences, which are usually organized by a High School or College MUN club. At the end of most conferences, outstanding delegates in each committee are recognized and given an award certificate.

Amity Law School, in collaboration with United Nations Information Centre for  India and Bhutan and with Nightingale International MUN 2018, organized two days Model United Nation on 27th and 28th August 2018 . The event was inaugurated by lighting of lamp by Director ALS. Secretary General of this MUN Mr Deepansh Tripathi declared the MUN open.

In this edition of AUMP MUN, there were a total of five Committees and the International Press. The Committees were  –

United Nation Human Rights Committee,   UNHRC

United Nation International Children’s Emergency Fund,   UNICEF

United Nation General Assembly: Legal UNGA

United Nation Security Council UNSC and Lok Sabha

The agendas of Committees were decided while keeping in mind the current world scenario and the immediate requirement of changes and reforms in respective areas. 

The agenda of UNHRC was “The Right to Privacy in Digital Life” where delegates discussed and deliberated on the importance of privacy and the laws associated with it. UNICEF's agenda was Locating the Role of Governments in the Realization of Right to Free and Compulsory Education to Children below 14 years of Age. 

 The agenda for UNGA Legal was : Reforms of Security Council. The agenda for Lok Sabha was Regularizing Social Media to Avoid its Misuse, and UNSC's agenda was Combating Terrorism in Afganisthan. For this event Amity Law School hosted 270 students. These students were from 13 schools and 07 colleges from Gwalior and other parts of the country. Gwalior Glory School, Gwalior, had sent 83 students to participate in the MUN and won the first prize. There were about 52 students in UNICEF, 27 in UNSC, 55 in UNHRC, 48 in Lok Sabha and 40 in UNGA: Legal and the rest in the International Press. 17 Executive Board Members were invited from across the country and abroad 3 members for each committee and 2 members for IP. Members were from India, Nepal and Dubai.

A cultural program was organized by the cultural Committee of Amity Law School. Dance numbers from Spain, China, India and many other countries showcased. A fusion of songs was also sung by the students which enhanced the feeling of togetherness and unity among the participants and other students. A fun quiz was also a part of the cultural show which involved a lot of drama and interaction with the students. And lastly a scary yet amazing horror performance took place.

28th August 2018

Committees were held from 1000h to 1545h pm. Resolutions were passed in the Committees. Valedictory Session was organized which was chaired by Lt. Gen. M.L. Naidu PVSM, AVSM, YSM, Former Vice Chief of Army staff, who had served in Embassy of India in Germany and was a part of Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka. Awards were given to the winners of each Committee. Lt Gen V K Sharma, AVSM, the Vice Chancellor, Pro Vice Chancellor, Registrar, All Deans and Directors of AUMP were present at the Event.
