“Workshop on PEER (Performance Excellence in Electricity Renewal)"

A workshop on Performance Excellence in Electricity Renewal was organized by Amity School of Engineering & Technology, Amity University Gurugram on 25th July 2018 to deliberate on issues concerning the power sector and measures adopted for energy saving and use of renewable energy  in our country.

Mr Vamsi Raj M, Technical Specialist, Green Business Certification Institute was the resource person for the workshop. Dr Priti Singh, HoI, Amity School of Engineering & Technology welcomed the guest and introduced him to the participants of the workshop.

Mr Vamsi Raj began his session by giving insights on India’s power sector and also shared that power generation  in India ranges from conventional sources such as coal, lignite, natural gas, oil, the hydro and nuclear power to viable non-conventional sources such as wind, solar, and agricultural and domestic waste. At present, the power generation in the renewable sector is just 20% of the entire power generation of the country (71.325 GW). He also pointed out that the power interruption in our country can be reduced by depending on renewable energy sources rather than on the conventional energy sources. He pointed out that people working in the field of ‘Green Energy’ can do a lot of research work on the various energy saving techniques as well as the ‘Smart Grid’ concept which are a topic of discussion these days. The field of ‘Green Energy’ also presents a lot of scope for student to do research on, and take up such topics for their dissertations.

Mr. Raj concluded his session by sharing with the audience an interesting fact about renewable energy. He mentioned that the renewable energy sources are projected to grow massively in near future. India’s wind power capacity is likely to more than double and solar power likely to witness a 15 times increase by 2022.

Mr Vamsi Raj also expressed his desire to involve the Amity University students in various projects in the field of renewable energy. Thus, the Workshop was a great learning experience for faculty and students of ASET.
