National Seminar on Solid Waste Management: Perspective and Way Forward

National Seminar on Solid Waste Management: Perspective and Way Forward was organized by Amity School of Engineering & Technology of Amity University Gurugram on 9th February, 2018 for its Civil Engineering students to give an understanding about the process of Solid Waste Management. 

Maj Gen V K Narang, Director Amity School of Engineering & Technology gave the opening remarks and briefed the objective of National Seminar. The seminar comprises of Expert talks, Technical session and several rounds of formal and informal discussion on different aspect of waste and policy recommendation for improving waste management practices and waste-to-energy conversion. This event had witnessed the 300 participants from Amity University Gurugram and other universities. 

Prof (Dr) R K Malik (Convener of Seminar) begin his session by sharing methods of Solid Waste Management involving science researchers & experts, policy makers, technology consultant and service provider working in this domain. He also shared that in India collection, transportation, disposal processing and treatment of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) are not effectively managed in cities and towns in India which creating uncontrolled dumping of wastes on outskirts of towns. It is suggested that concerted efforts from all stakeholders are required to ensure that waste is managed in a sustainable manner because nearly 80 percent of generated solid waste going unprocessed. Stakeholders’ participation is critical to ensure a comprehensive approach towards Solid Waste Management. He also stated that by the end of this conference the participants will be able to gain state of the art practices and technologies in the area of solid waste management through exchange of experiences and this conference helped in networking with solid waste management experts for innovative solutions.

The conference was knowledgeable for all the participants to provide valuable inputs regarding Solid Waste Management.
