Guest lecture by Prof. Binoy Shankar Prasad

Amity School of Languages, Amity University Gurgaon organized a guest lecture on “Changing Face of Globalization” by Prof. Binoy Shankar Prasad on 5th of October 2017 to give knowledge about the various concepts related to globalization and division of the world in Global North and Global South.

Dr Ashok Tiku (HOD, Amity School of Languages) introduces Prof Binoy Shankar  as PhD holder from University of Missouri-Columbia (USA) and specializes in Comparative Politics, International Relations, American and South Asian Studies and Research Methodology. He has been associated with Ryerson University (Toronto, Canada), Centennial College (Toronto, Canada) and University of Missouri-Columbia (USA). He has been Fulbright Scholar at John Hopkins University (Washington DC).

Prof. Binoy begins his session by introducing various concepts related to globalization and division of the world in Global North and Global South. The geographical factors and ideological factors responsible for this division were discussed at large in view of changing world scenario. He shared his own experiences of teaching in various universities in USA and Canada in context of increased information access in this global village. He underlined how the increase in access to communication via the internet, via increased people to people interaction through immigration and mass displacement, and the increased nexus of transportation have changed the face of the world. The changing face of globalization has led to increased career opportunities in different parts of worlds. He cited the example of South Asian Diaspora in US, Canada and Europe.  The adverse effect of these phenomena in form of rising of “neo-conservatism” across the world was also discussed. The lecture followed a Question & Answer session.
