Excursion Visit of International Students to the Heritage Transport Museum

Office of International Affairs, Amity University Gurgaon organized an excursion visit to Heritage Transport Museum for International Students studying from various countries such as Nepal, Congo, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Bhutan and Afghanistan and many more on October 14th, 2017 aimed at giving a glimpse of the evolution of transportation modes in India from the earliest historical times.

The Excursion visit began with automobile gallery display of the museum; that showcases the evolution of the Indian car industry, as well as cars that have been used in India since the advent of motoring. On the display there are over 75 vintage and classic cars - parked alongside a recreated Indian street scene from yesteryears, sporting vintage Ephemera. A vintage petrol pump with spare parts memorabilia has also been recreated.

The International students were awestruck to closely see Heavy mechanized transportation gallery that has been designed like a bus depot that showcases the legend of bus journeys with a display of restored buses. Further It was followed by an amazing exploration of the grandeur of travel by rail through a historically inspired railway platform and a 1930s restored railway saloon from BBCI Railway and also the early models of aircrafts used in India, supported by original posters, timetables, tickets and advertisements. 

The visit concluded with movie screening on Transportation and International Space Station at the mini auditorium. The excursion was learning experience for the foreign students as they were introduced the historical collection comprising materials collected over the last two decades. There are over 10000 objects that are an important intellectual resource for the study of the social and economic history of India.
