A Seminar on the theme “Women Empowerment through Social Enterprise – An Interdisciplinary and Multi Cultural Perspective” organized at AUH

Taking strides in the execution of comprehensive Internationalization of Higher education at AUH, yet another milestone was achieved in this direction.An intellectually stimulating student centric seminar with interdisciplinary and multicultural perspective was organized at AUH on March 12th, 2019 on the theme “Women Empowerment through Social Enterprise – An Interdisciplinary and Multi Cultural Perspective.”

Twenty Six students from over twelve nationalities from both Florida International Universities, Miami and Amity University Gurugram brainstormed at the same.

The FIU delegation comprised 9 students from different disciplines led by an accomplished faculty in this area, Prof. DavidWernick, PhD, from the department of Management & International Business. He shared American perspective on the theme and highlighted that various complex issues pertaining to Women empowerment can be addressed with professional training and education. He also invited AUH students to join the FIU initiatives in the remote village of India where they are working jointly with women cooperatives to bring about a change in their lives.

Prof. Gunjan M Sanjeev, chairing the seminar, expressed great delight on such an event beingorganized with an American University, a partner of AUH, on such contemporary and relevant issues that impacts million of women across the world. She along with Dr Arvind Birdie presented a real time case study of an NGO in the Indian context on how the discard from the urban rich can be used as a currency for developmental activities in some of the far stretched villages in India. Some of the initiatives by Amity students in these directions were also highlighted.

Prof. Sanjay Goel, Director Amity Business School, delivered a talk on “Business Management perspectives on Women Empowerment” and elaborated on the theoretical underpinnings of the Management on the women in today’s globalised world. He also shared his perspective on male stereotype, family mooring and “how essential it is considered in Indian society for women to balance their families and business.”

Prof. (Dr) KiranDevendra, Head, Department of History, Amity School of Liberal Arts. Expressed her views on “Women Empowerment – through the lens of Social Studies Discipline” and stated that women empowerment is highly essential for sustainable development for a country with universal perspective. She urged the audience to have a positive outlook towards women empowerment and immensely focused on “How important it is to have equal rights for both the male and female in any organization”.

Towards the end of the engaging deliberations, Prof. SunitiSood, Head Amity School of Fashion Design & Technology conducted a workshop on Indian Art on how this could be used by women cooperatives for producing some of the souvenirs and other gift items, thus supporting women empowerment to earn livelihood for themselves and their families.

Prof P.B. Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, AUH, opined, “Today, we feel proud that not only we are achieving excellence in the domestic frontiers but we are also able to create ripples in this endeavor along with our partner Universities across the world.”
