Amity Institute of Psychology and Allied Sciences organized Seminar on Preventive Intervention in Psychological Crisis to mark the World Mental Health Day

To mark the World Mental Health Day, Amity Institute of Psychology and Allied Sciences (AIPAS) in association with Max Heathcare organized a Seminar on “ Preventive Intervention in Psychological Crisis” to highlight the preventive intervention to deal with psychological crisis. Also, awareness about the importance of mental well-being was created through a wide array of day long activities. The theme of the event was ‘The Impact of culture and diversity on Mental Health’ in consonance with the theme chosen by WHO for World Mental Heath Day

talked about deteriorating mental health in India and abroad; role of psychology in day to day life; use of psychology in criminal investigation; various avenues open for the students of psychology such as IAS, CBI, Forensic Science Laboratories and preventive measures for ensuring popular mental health.

Dr. C. P Roy- Director, Non Invasive and Preventive Cardiology, Max Health Institute dwelt on Coronary Artery Diseases, their causes and remedies.

Dr. Deepak Gupta- Director, SNEHI (NGO) discussed how by bringing mental health issues into the mainstream of today’s health conscious society, a real difference can be brought in future of the country. He deliberated on the increasing cases of suicides and how they can be checked by communication with peer group, friends and family; by developing alternative solution to the problem; by recognizing personal strength; family support and environmental manipulation.

Talking about the importance of Mental Health, Prof. Abha Singh- Joint Director, AIPAS said that mental health is as important as physical health for the overall well- being of individuals, societies and countries. World Mental Health Day is observed globally on October 10 every year to raise public awareness about mental health issues. Defining mental health she said, “Mental Health is a state of psychological and emotional well-being that enables an individual to work, love, resolve conflicts and relate to others effectively. Healthy mind leads to holistic health”. Sharing alarming figure of 877, 000 people committing suicides every year, she raised her concern about millions of people worldwide who are affected by mental, behavioral, neurological and substance use disorders and how prevention of mental disorders is better then cure.

On this occasion, 15 students of Amity Institute of Psychology and Allied Sciences performed Nukkad Nataks on psycho- social issues at Amity Campus, Sector- 125; Dilli Haat and C.P Central Park. It aimed to enhance psychological competencies in people, enabling them to become happier, more satisfied and to realize their potential thereby preventing psychological and emotional difficulties from becoming disabilities

Several inter- institutional competitions such as Poster Competition on “Coping with Emotional Crisis”; Slogan Competition on “Mind in Changing World” and PSY-Quiz on “Mental Health Awareness” were also organized.In " Poster Making" first position was bagged by the team of Amity Institute of Biotechnology(Siddharth Gupta, Surbhi Sharma & Shuchi Sharma)and the team of Amity School of Fine Arts (Sonia Singh. Laxmi Negi & Antas Singh) bagged the second position.In the " Slogan Competition" Amity School of Engineering- B.Tech (Aarohi B Shetty & Vishwesh)lifted the first prize and Shristi and Shubham Gupta from Amity Institute of Bio- Technology received the second prize.In the Quiz Competition, Varun Taneja and Abhey Bir from Amity Institute of Travel and Tourism emerged victorious and Saniya Irfan from AIPS received the second prize.
