Certificate course on “Child Protection and Juvenile Justice” launched by Amity Child Protection Centre
Amity Child Protection Centre ( ACPC), a joint initiative of Amity Institute of Behavioural Health and Allied Sciences (AIBHAS) and Prayas Institute of Juvenile Justice launched Three Month Certificate Course on “ Child Protection and Juvenile Justice” for Government and Non- Government officers. The program is first ever of its kind and will be a rich blend of theory and hands-on training.It will provide in- depth knowledge on Child Protection and Juvenile Justice System to the participants
Shri. Gyanendra Srivastava, IAS and Principal Secretary, Social Welfare, Govt. of NCT Delhi; Mr. Amod Kanth, IPS and Founder General Secretary, Prayas, Ms. Sandhya Bajaj, Member, National Commission for protection of Child Rights, Govt. of India and Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan- Founder President, Amity University launched the course and wished the first batch of participants success in this noble endeavour.
Prof (Dr) V. Veeraraghavan, Director General, AIBHAS introduced the faculty with the participants and gave a brief about the course curriculum. Dwelling upon the objectives of the course she said that the course will equip the learners to develop a synergy between theory and practice on issues of child protection and juvenile justice. They will be able to implement effectively juvenile legislation and programmes. They will create and enhance large scale social awareness and advocacy programmes in the areas of child protection and juvenile justice. The participants will improve the institutional infrastructure for implementing institutional services for children.
Speaking on the occasion and expressing his concern about the deplorable plight of children in India ,
Mr. Gyanendra Srivastava, IAS and Principal Secretary, Social Welfare, Govt. of NCT Delhi and Chief Guest of the occasion said the Constitution of India guarantees equal rights and privileges to children. A number of policies and laws are drafted regularly by Government to safeguard the “Supreme Assets” of the country. Despite all this the crime rate against children is increasing at a stupendous and alarming rate. This calls for well knit programmes on Child Protection that are aimed at preventing the exploitation of children in various forms. More and more volunteers need to be sensitized about this concern about children. He applauded the collaboration of Amity University and Prayas which has resulted in the formation of Amity Child Protection Centre, a social engine striving to bring about a sea change in the condition of children in our country.
Addressing the distinguished gathering,
Shri Amod Kanth- IPS, Founder General Secretary, Prayas said that 35 million children in India deserve care and need. Talking about the recent initiatives of Government of India he said that judging astutely the current volatile situation at hand the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India., has proposed the ‘Offences against Children Bill’. Government has also come up with “ Integrated Child Protection Scheme” which will cover children between the age group of 0- 18 years. In its wake every district, sub- district is bound to have Child Protection Centre but there is a massive crunch of trained manpower in this field. More and more such training programs are needed to make a difference in the society. When asked about the extent of involvement of Corporate Sector in this social cause, he replied that Corporate Sector has started taking a little interest but their contribution is very miniscule. They need to come up in a bigger way.
