The Centre of Economic Research and International Economic Legislation, Amity International Business School organized an International Business WTO Workshop – “WTO & India: Year 2005 and Beyond” on December 22nd 2005 at Amity Campus, Noida.

The keynote address was given by Mr. Sunil Kumar, Associate Director, Customs & International Trade - National Customs Coordinator, Ernst & Young. Speaking on the outcome of the recently-concluded Hong Kong Ministerial of the WTO, the Mr. Kumar said, “The agreement reached on agriculture would help Indian farmers in giving them enough opportunities to export farm products, while yielding them to maintain domestic support and off the hook some products from tariff cuts. He further drove a hope that India would be able to draw up a list of 90 special products, which would be outside the tariff-reduction formula and enable Indian farmers to uphold their vital crops from global competition.” said Mr. Kumar.

Prof. (Dr.) Gurinder Singh, Pro Vice Chancellor, AUUP & Head, AIBS on giving brief outline about the programme remarked, “This workshop aims to provide an intellectually stimulating platform for the interaction and discussion of experienced economists, policy makers from the government, industry and academia. The main focus of the workshop is thought provoking technical sessions on “Review of the Hong Kong Ministerial Conference” and “Issues concerning Apparel Exports and relevance of Patents and Agricultural Subsidies for developed vis-à-vis developing nations”.
