5th Convocation at the Amity School of Communication, Noida

The Amity School of Communication (ASCO) Noida, which has made its mark as a frontrunner among institutions offering advertising and journalism courses, celebrated “Fifth Convocation” on March 31, 2005, at the Amity auditorium, Amity Campus, Sector 44, Noida.

On the occasion, 93 Advertising and Journalism students of the 2003-04 batch were awarded with post-graduate diplomas by the Guests of Honour Ms Syeda Imam, Former National Creative Director of J Walter Thompson and Mr Sanjeev Srivastava, India correspondent, BBC News.

The Beat, a professional-grade magazine primed by the students was also released on the occasion by the Mr. Srivastava & Ms Imam.

Dr Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation on the occasion remarked, “Indians are blessed with intuition, instinct, sixth sense, gut feel, which is very important in a profession like Journalism and Advertising”. Dr. Chauhan further congratulated students on their achievement and encouraged them to think globally.

Ms Imam on the occasion congratulated the students on completion of their program. Ms Imam raised a few issues from today’s world of journalism. She encouraged students to indulge in good journalism and respect ones profession, “Even if you are doing a negative story, the intention should always be good and to bring a positive change”. She encouraged the students to use the power that they have the power of media and journalism, and fight against the wrongs of the society.

Mr Srivastava lauded the efforts of the students for their 1st grade media magazine “The Beat”. He added, “You students should always believe in self and work hard to make your dream come true”. He further congratulated Mr. Rahul for his article Dead man walking, and said “True journalism is about making the news simple and cutting the nonsense”.

Mr Atul Chauhan, President, RBEF appreciated the efforts of the student and thanked the esteemed dignitaries for their presence on the occasion. Addressing the august gathering, Mr. Chauhan asked the student of ASCO to design print advertisement for Amity School of Communication, out of which the best advertisement selected will be published in the national dailies with the name of the winning student.

Mr Rahul Agarwal, Ex Alumni ASCO (Amity School of Communication) won the CNN “Best Young Journalist” Award (Asia) for 2004 for his news report, Dead Man Walking, which revealed how government land records were being tampered by greedy relatives to grab the land of 10,000 villagers in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, by falsely showing them in the records as dead.
