Seminar on Teacher Education: Challenges Ahead

Amity Institute of Education organized One Day National Seminar on Teacher Education: The Challenges Ahead at Amity Campus Saket,New Delhi. The main thrust of the seminar was to see whether almost one year long training is sufficient to equip teacher trainees to be able to gain proficiency as suggested by the educationists.

Ms. D. Purandeswari, Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Government of India and Chief Guest of the Seminar said, “With the all round development, the country has now entered a competitive phase of development with all its challenges and opportunities. The changed situation calls for modernization and up gradation of India’s higher education system in general and teacher education in particular. The country needs experts for achieving the objectives of creating a vibrant economy and competitive manpower to be at par with the developed world. The deliberations at the seminar are definitely going to help the participants and the experts to arrive at a logical conclusion which will help to make policy recommendations to the relevant authorities and Government organizations in the field of teacher education.

Prof. S.K. Thakur, Chairman, National Council for Teacher Education and Guest of Honour of the Seminar remarked, “The advancement in technology has resulted into increasing the knowledge gathering mechanism and therefore there is a need to increase the quality of transaction of the curriculum with a view to develop the skills required in constantly changing scenario and placing importance to the justification of the time frame for such training.”

Guest of Honour of the Seminar Prof. A.K. Sharma, Former Director, NCERT remarked, “Teacher Education and Training is, no doubt, an essential ingredient for enriching teachers who render their useful contribution in development of good citizens. The theme of the Seminar is apt and the deliberations, I am sure, would be quite helpful equipping the teachers to maintain their pre-eminent position in the society.”
Dr. Ashok K.Chauhan, Founder President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation said, “The topic of the Seminar assumes great significance in today’s scenario. Today the Training Institutions imparting teacher education have a number of challenges. One such important challenge before them is to ensure that their curriculum is prepared by taking into account the needs and requirements of our current schooling system so that those who pass out from these Institutions are able to cope with the syllabus etc. in the schools”.

Mr. Atul Chauhan, President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation (RBEF) quoted, “Amity Institute of Education (AIE) plans and organizes appropriate events to offer a platform to the educationists of repute to come, deliberate and share the concerns on relevant issues with others. The main topic, sub-topics and other issues to be discussed in this Seminar are of utmost importance for bringing desired changes in the teacher education.”
