It was a momentous occasion when a galaxy of 19 senior IAS officers from 15 cadres visited Amity University, Sec-125 to attend a one week In- Service training program for senior officers of the Indian Administrative Service from Nov 6 - 10, 2006 on "Management of Natural Resources and Sustainable Development" organized by Amity School of Natural Resources and Sustainable Development . Department of Personnel, Ministry of Personal, Public Grievances and Pensions, Govt. of India, was the sponsorer of the program. The high level specialised program was designed to spread an awareness about the judicial use of natural resources, which are depleting at a rapid pace, to the people who are at the decision making level.
Welcoming the distinguished gathering during the inaugural ceremony Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President-Ritnand Balved Education Foundation said, "Management of natural resources is the frontline of struggle for more sustainable and equitable development. All our actions ultimately have consequences on the quality and quantity of natural resources on this planet. This pivotal information needs to be disseminated especially to IAS officers who are the "pillars" of an economy. IAS officers are the steel frame for providing administrative policies. This will require great ingenuity and cooperation across nations and cultures"
Participants expressed the views that this is going to be a great opportunity for them to learn and get an insight in to various dimensions of Management of Natural Resources on a Sustainable basis. They are looking forward to this programme with great expectations.
Emphasizing the role of natural resources in an economy, Mr. Aseem Chauhan, Additional President - Ritnand Balved Education Foundation (RBEF) said that
natural resources are the most important asset of a country. The plight of
natural resources is deplorable; they are on the verge of depletion. It's a
matter of great introspection. A collective approach at District level,
State level, and National level is the call of the hour.
The Programme Director and Director of the School of Natural Resources and Sustainable Development Mr. B.K.P. Sinha expressed the views that in the area of Natural Resource Management the IAS has a crucial role to play because of their coordinating and over-arching functions between different ministries, central, state and district administration. Their sensitization on regional, national and international issues is a dire need in view of the impending environmental and ecological crisis facing the country.
In the week long training, several eminent speakers from various walks of life
deliberated and shared their valuable views on " Overview of Natural
Resources","Issues related to community and interlinking of rivers", "Issues related to
policies and governance", "Green accounting”, “Biodiversity Conservation”
”Energy Issues", "Eco- tourism and Wetlands", "Forest Resources”, Environmental Implications of Nanotechnology, and legal Issues". The sessions were highly interactive and culminated in a panel discussion headed by Mr. J.S. Verma, Ex-Chief Jusrtice of India and Chairman National Human Rights Commission; Mr. K . Shashank, Ex-Foreign Secretary and Dr. J.C. Kala, Ex Director General of Forests, Govt. of India
