Mission


  • To improve the living conditions and rural economy of the poor through introduction of appropriate trees and shrubs in the rural landscapes. In other words to devise feasible ways and means for appropriate land use practices, leading to:
    • Improvement in agriculture and livestock production
    • Stabilize and enrich the rural environment
    • Meet the essential needs of the fuel wood, fodder small timber for the rural population
  • To be a leader and center of excellence in instruction and public service related to:
    • Understanding, managing and use of natural and biological resources
    • Improving outdoor environments ranging from wilderness to managed forests and non forest areas to urban landscapes
    • Managing and enhancing biological diversity, environmental quality and resources options
    • Application of science and technology to the conservation, restoration, holistic development, improved utilization of environmental and other biological resources
  • To carry out research training and extension particularly for Non Timber Forest Products to augment their supply base and through value addition
