Specialization Streams

Skill Development
Written and Oral Communication Skills .
In this programme, repeated opportunities are provided to expand upon and improve both skills. Written skills will be exercised in the cases student’s will submit for evaluation. Verbal & non-verbal communication skills will be exercised in two major ways. First, class discussions allow student’s to present their point of view on a topic, especially when presenting solutions to the class. Second, and perhaps more important, some of the casework will be done on a group basis and it is here that student’s will get repeated opportunities to influence others as they work together to discover, understand, and meet the challenges presented by the cases.
Analytical Skills . A large component of this course revolves around analytical skills. Specific analytical skills are taken from subjects: financial and management accounting, quantitative analysis, economics, strategy, and others.
Critical Thinking Skills . There are at least three ways this course seeks to develop critical thinking skills. First, cases are just that: narratives and/or data sets where student’s are challenged to understand the situation and to identify the problems of interest. Second, they are challenged to identify the relevant analytical tools to apply, given the problems they seek to solve.
Ethical Dimensions In Professional Practice . The institution clearly focuses that the this course is delivered within the context that ethical behavior in business is the professional norm.
MBA Projects
Each student, individually or in assigned groups, is required to complete two projects in each semester. Each project will be of 50 marks. The MBA Project enables student’s to explore in depth a managerial, organisational or technological issue and, by so doing, to put into practice relevant knowledge and skills, and to reflect on learning outcomes. The project is an integral part of the MBA programme and must be completed satisfactorily. It provides an ideal opportunity to build on what has already been learned. The primary aim is to enhance student’s own learning in an area of their choice, and they are encouraged to undertake projects within organisations. The final Project Report is expected to be 13,000–16,000 words in length.
MBA Summer Training Project
As an integral part of the MBA course, summer projects are designed to provide MBA students an opportunity to put their learning into practice, while enabling companies to use quality managers-in-the-making for real-life short-term assignments. All the students undergo a rigorous two-month summer project in the corporate world. The project duration is of about 8-10 weeks during May, June and July. Each student will have a corporate guide & a faculty guide. The project is evaluated by the panel of external, internal and corporate examiners on the basis of a report, a presentation and viva-voce.
MBA Dissertation
Towards the end of their MBA programme each student is required to complete a dissertation, which makes a substantial contribution to their MBA. Each student benefits from the advice and insights of an academic advisor and the outcome is a substantial and authoritative work of between 10,000 and 15,000 words. The dissertation will be examined by two internal examiners and, if required, an external examiner, as part of the ongoing process of quality assessment of academic standards. Students are encouraged to carry out their dissertation in association with a company or organisation and this gives the company the opportunity to benefit from the expertise of an industry experienced student who has completed eighteen months of MBA level study. The dissertation can take many forms including combinations of a research-based document, a business plan, a business report or a case study.
